NINE Sons of Dan launched its debut self-titled EP at the Hoey Moey on Saturday night to a capacity crowd of more than 200.
Supported by an all-local lineup of Swimming With Sharks, Matty Effin Morison and The Outcome, the guys rocked out hard for their loyal fans, with vocalist Jay Bainbridge calling it the best show they had ever played.
For a band that has supported Kisschasy, British India and Grafton Primary and are about to go on tour with Stone Parade, that’s a big call.
“A huge thanks to everyone who turned out to the launch at the Hoey Moey, and to the bands that supported us and everyone involved in organising and hosting the event,” drummer Morgan Blake said.
“Swimming With Sharks, Matty Effin Morison and The Outcome all went off, and thanks to Shane and Lynne Secombe of Offbeat Operations who helped organise the event, as well the Hoey Moey for hosting it.
“A big thanks to Vanessa, Joel and the Coffs E-Guide, the Coffs Coast Independent newspaper, Star FM, and 104.1 CHY FM for helping to promote the event.
“And a very, very special thanks to our crew who travelled all the way from the Gold Coast to rock out, including Jac from Feel Flow Productions who filmed the gig. I can’t say how much we owe you all.”
Morgan also encourages local bands to believe in their ability and just get themselves out here.
“If you are a Coffs band, please get out there and do one of these shows for yourself,” he said.
“Just get the bands together, do it all yourself, print up some merchandise and get out there.
“We have no manager, no label and this was just us playing, and we had the best time and the show of our lives, so go on get some yourself.
“You don’t need to wait for support slots to hold an awesome show.”
Nine Sons of Dan will spend the next few months writing for its upcoming full-length album, which has very big shoes to fill judging by the crowd reaction on Saturday night.
