New campaign to lure visitors

04 Feb, 2010 12:11 PM
A NEW campaign to encourage visitors to the Coffs Coast was launched this week.

Coffs Coast tourism groups and councils launched the Discover Coffs Coast tourism marketing campaign on Tuesday.

The campaign will use television adverts, direct email campaigns, print and online advertising and brochures to encourage people to visit the region.

For the first time, many new online tools will be used, including social media tools, Google Adwords and a specific campaign website to draw people to the Coffs Coast.

Coffs Coast Marketing’s tourism and marketing manager Glenn Caldwell said the promotion was primarily designed to push customers to the campaign website and the 1300 phone number.

“Coffs Coast Marketing is proud to co-ordinate this major tourism campaign – one which represents a true spirit of cooperation and teamwork in promoting Coffs Coast as Australia’s premier travel destination,” Mr Caldwell said.

The campaign, a collaboration between Coffs Harbour City, Bellingen and Nambucca Shire councils, Coffs Coast Tourism, Tourism Bellinger and Nambucca Valley Tourism, has seen many businesses come on board to make the campaign a success.

The first emails have been sent and television advertisements have already been screened across NSW, but outside of the Coffs Coast area, including on the new Channel Nine digital channel GO!.

The website at www.discovercoffscoast.com.au is now live with many special offers up for grabs.

“We have over 50 operators participating from across the Coffs Coast with wonderful offers for visitors,” Mr Caldwell said.

“We are hoping the dedicated website will generate qualified leads to operators for bookings and help create a detailed customer database.”

The promotion will continue until June.

The campaign has been made possible with the support of Coffs Harbour City Council, local tourism operators, Tourism NSW and NSW State Government Flood Recovery funding.

The "discover coffs coast" website doesn't seem to be very live - I have yet to find it! Despite trying several search engines, I am at a loss. What a shame, after extensive TV & newspaper advertising, it appears the website is more dead than live!

i dont think ratepayers should be paying for advertising for tourist businesses... rates should be for local services only this is the reason our rates are sky high. councils sticking their noses into areas that do not concern them or the majority of their ratepayers is a instant recipe for everincreasing rates.these businesses can advertise themselves and claim a tax benifit through the tax office like the rest of us.. the council doesnt advertise my families business with ratepayers money so why should they advertise tourism in this area ?
