Business coach snares top award

16 Apr, 2008 05:52 PM
A PASSION for extracting the best from his clients has left Sawtell business coach Trent Taylor with a string of international public speaking engagements and recognition from his clients and peers.

With nine regional and global awards to his name, the ActionCoach powerhouse recently added to his collection with a regional Asia Pacific award for best client results, presented at a conference on the Gold Coast.

Sought after on the company’s public speaking circuit, Trent will travel to California to address the ActionCoach international conference and possibly scoop the global award for best client results.

“I put my achievements down to my congruency,” Trent said.

“I practice what I preach. I would never expect a client to do something I haven’t done or am not currently doing.”

Trent has coached clients in Australia, the UK and USA since starting out in July 2004 and has business interests in Perth in addition to his own company, which was recently relocated to Sawtell.

“My wife Sally and I were looking for a place that inspired us,” Trent said.

The mountains, beaches and rivers were important in the mix and the result was a choice between Sawtell and Port Macquarie.

“We took one look at Sawtell and the decision was made – there was no choice,” he said.

Trent works with business operators who are passionate about reaching greater heights and has a talent for extracting the best from the people he works with.

“It’s a mindset – it’s more than looking at finance, or the market or the sales or the team – it’s about using leverage,” Trent said.

“It’s understanding what a business’s critical drivers are and what a business needs to do to gain traction.”

He said while many tried to solve local business issues with global solutions, understanding a business was to appreciate its position locally.

“I look at a business as a bucket and every business’s bucket is full of holes,” Trent said.

“That’s what a CEO’s job is, to patch the holes with solutions.”

While dealing with regular clients in group coaching sessions, Trent’s forte is dealing with those with more than $500,000 turnover a year on a one-to-one coaching basis.

“They know their business best and my job is to pull out all the things they know they should be doing and hold them accountable,” Trent said.

“I make sure my clients get results because I won’t let them off the hook. If they come to me with excuses – it’s not acceptable, I won’t let it happen.”

Trent said he worked best with business people who were passionate about what they did and driven by a core desire to improve life for their family.

“People are most successful when their family values are aligned – I work best with these people because it’s how I operate,” he said.
