SICK of politicians talking the talk but not walking the walk on climate change, John Knox is taking the issue into his own hands.
A father of two, Mr Knox has embarked on a solo tour of Australia, and apart from a few bus trips across the top end, the tour will be completed
entirely by bike.
The journey started on July 29 in Melbourne, and is planned to finish by Christmas, but the slog is well worth it Mr Knox said, to spread his message.
“As a parent I want to protect my kids’ future and I see climate change as the issue that will have the most
effect on them during their lifetime.”
Ride-the-Talk is all about raising awareness of the simple things people can do in their everyday lives that save energy.
Providing practical hints to help people reduce energy use and save money along his journey, Mr Knox gave a two-hour talk in Coffs Harbour on Tuesday night.
“A lot of the things I talk about are things our parents and grandparents did to save costs – it’s not rocket science. And for those that are sceptical about climate change I’d like to ask why– what reason do you have when more than 90 per cent of scientists are convinced this is happening?
“If the scientists are wrong about climate change we’ll still be fine but if the sceptics are wrong all hell’s out.
“We really can’t afford to make that mistake for future generations.”
