New stalls, new produce at Coffs Growers Market

05 Mar, 2010 07:59 AM
COFFS Coast Growers Market has been lucky enough to secure two new market stalls in the past few weeks that will add even more variety to the fantastic array of produce already on offer.

Justin and Kim Gilbert, of Dorrigo, are fifth generation farmers and run Booma Boers Goat Stud. They have been farming goats for the past 10 years and are one of only three companies in Australia that sell goat meat at markets.

“We breed boer goats which are a specific meat breed,” Justin said.

“Goat meat is the most consumed red meat in the world and is very nutritious as it is low in fat and cholesterol.”

Justin and Kim attend the market every Thursday and sell a variety of products including goat mince, sausages, shanks and a variety of other cuts. They also have free recipe ideas for their customers to try.

“But what about if you have a bit of a sweet tooth? Then we have just the thing for you,” said Jan Rooney, Coffs Harbour City Council’s Investment Attraction and City Centre marketing officer.

“Valentina and Terry Thyssen have been producing fudge from a tried and tested American recipe for many years. They also offer free samples before you buy, so no one can resist a visit to their stall.”

The Coffs Coast Growers Market is held every Thursday in City Square, Harbour Drive, from 8am-3.30pm.

The Coffs Coast Growers' Market provides the freshest in local and regional produce, plus a growing range of organic produce.

Regular items for sale include fruit and vegetables, flowers, plants and herbs, olives, cakes, honey, nuts, flowers, oils, eggs, wood-fired breads, wild seafood,

locally-made soaps, jams and spreads, dog products, meats and gourmet sausages.
