Ozanam Villa closes

05 Nov, 2009 11:21 AM
WHILE the Ozanam Villa ‘family’ of staff, volunteers and residents are almost entirely moving together across the highway to new accommodation in St Josephs Aged Care facility, it won’t be the same for anyone.

Today will be the official closing ceremony for Ozanam Villas, tucked behind St Augustine’s Primary School and run as an aged care residential facility by Catholic Healthcare.

Resident Bruce Morton caused some laughter when he said: “It’s hard to know who are residents and who are staff here”.

Bruce didn’t apologise for suggesting staff were aged, cheekily adding instead: “We mingle that well. Some of the staff are preparing for life when they will be residents, so they treat us differently”.

Staff have also enjoyed working at Ozanam Villas, and a number of former staff now return as volunteers.

“We’ve always had a strong sense of community here, it’s a family and it’s a home,” said Matron Kathy Neve, who has clocked up 21 years working at Ozanam Villas said.
