Sustainable Building and Technology Network Launched

05 Mar, 2010 07:53 AM
COFFS Harbour City Council and North Coast Institute TAFE NSW are marking the launch of a regional Sustainable Building and Technology Network with an inaugural expert speaker seminar on Thursday, March 11.

“The new network is part of the work we are undertaking to inform and educate the community on sustainable approaches to living and working,” said Jenny Oloman, council’s Economic Development Unit manager.

“We are keen to get local architects, real estate agents, planners, consultants, developers, renewable energy providers, builders, tradespeople and those working in the environmental and water systems sectors involved.”

The network, which is supported by the NSW Government’s Climate Change Fund, is aiming to provide:

• access to expert speakers on topics of sustainable building and technology;

• a supplier database for regional businesses;

• case studies of sustainable champions in the region;

• a showcase for sustainable initiatives and projects;

• a supportive environment for linking with like-minded businesses;

• market development – raise awareness and increase demand;

• skills and knowledge sharing; and

• links with training organisations.

The network will facilitate a speakers' program of seminars and workshops as well as online discussion forums that will provide space for members to continue discussions and exchange ideas.

The first expert speaker is entrepreneur and business development advisor Fiona Waterhouse. She is a prominent figure in the Australian ‘Cleantech’ market where she assists entrepreneurs to demonstrate and commercialise clean technologies through practical business development.

She will pose the questions - What are the global trends that are going to shape local business opportunities over the next decade? and How can you position your business or your career path to capitalise on these opportunities?

The ‘How can Cleantech shape the future of Coffs Harbour?’ seminar will be held on Thursday, March 11 at D Block Theatre, Coffs Harbour Education Campus, at 1pm. Entry is free and a light lunch, plus refreshments will be provided.

RSVP to Kristina.cooke@chcc.nsw.gov.au or phone 6648 4089 for catering purposes.
