IT’S time to frock up for a great cause for Coffs Coast’s Autism Masquerade Ball.
Annually the ball raises funds for the not-for-profit organisation, enabling the committee of mums and dads to continue their good work with children and adults on the autism spectrum.
Coffs Coast Autism’s Lexi Duffy said that while the organisation provides library resources and constant support in the form of people who understand the situation carers and parents are going through – they also provide social and respite days.
“Our mum’s respite day is all about being able to talk to other mums who empathise with your situation, all about sharing in the company of others,” Mrs Duffy said.
“It’s about pampering too with champagne and a movie – it’s something they look forward to months ahead.
“We hear it time and time again that there are so many fantastic professionals out there to help but it makes all the difference to just talk to someone who has been through the same thing.”
Family outings are another event, a rewarding and inspirational thing to be involved in according to Mrs Duffy.
“To see all the families get together, and see them relaxed and not concerned if their child is going to have a bad day is amazing,” she said.
