Running squad is flying high
02 Jul 10 | Running coach Jason Smit is fast gaining a reputation of producing quality athletes, with nine members of his Coffs City Flyers group qualifying for state schools’ cross-country championships this year.
13 May 10 | MORE than 160 runners hit the sand at Sandy Beach on Sunday in near ideal autumn conditions. Once again the usual suspects contested the 2km, with Cris Robb edging Guy Leckenby by the narrowest of margins 7.42 minutes to 7.43.

Pearson dominates Woolgoolga fun runs
30 Mar 10 | RICHARD Pearson repeated last year’s victory in the 5km Seaside Scamper on Sunday, and in the process took a massive 43 seconds off his 2009 time.
International flavour to Great Ocean Run
25 Mar 10 | AN international flavour pervaded this year’s running of the Water World Great Ocean Run from Red Rock to Coffs Jetty, with Norwegian Dagroed Hilland winning in fine style before being presented with his ‘golden thong’ T-shirt and certificate by one of the original Ironman triathletes, American Dave Orlowski.
Woolgoolga set to stage weekend of fun running
18 Mar 10 | THE 29th annual weekend of ‘fun’ running will be held in Woolgoolga on March 27-28. For the more ambitious runner or jogger, the Forest Footrace over 11.2km will get underway from Apex Park, near the roundabout, on the Saturday at 4pm.

Vaughan dominates Woolgoolga 10,000m championship
25 Feb 10 | NEIL Vaughan added his name to the perpetual shield for the Woolgoolga 10,000m track championship with an all-the-way win at Woolgoolga Sportsground last Friday evening. The victory also sets him up for a successful defence of his Warren Partland Series crown.
Pearson dominates running series
18 Feb 10 | WITH consecutive fine days allowing the Woolgoolga Sportsground to dry out enough to use, Richard Pearson made the Woolgoolga Athletic Club’s track his own with his fifth win in this year’s Bunch of Fives series. Pearson was lapping runners within the first kilometre to stamp his authority on the race and the series.
Jacinta displays steeple potential
11 Feb 10 | WOOLGOOLGA athlete Jacinta Smithers showed great potential by finishing fifth in the under-17 years 2000m steeplechase at the recent Australian all schools’ athletics championships in Hobart. The 14-year-old was up against much older competitors and her performance was outstanding considering there are no training facilities for the steeplechase on the North Coast.
Runners make early start to the new year
17 Dec 09 | SAWTELL will host the region’s first fun run of the new year when the annual 5.5km trek through the seaside village is held on January 1. Organised by the Sawtell/Toormina Little Athletics Centre, the annual fun run has become the traditional starting point for the popular Sawtell Fun Day at the Sawtell Caravan Park.

17 Dec 09 | THIS year’s runners and walkers in the annual Dorrigo fun runs had to contend with the warm and muggy conditions. All participants started in high spirits, tackling the undulating course.

19 Nov 09 | WOOLGOOLGA High School held its annual athletics carnival recently, with a number of records broken. Lachlin Arthur (13 years) and Nicole Gusman (14 years) each set three new marks.
Woolgoolga athletes excel at state titles
16 Nov 09 | WOOLGOOLGA High School students produced outstanding results at the NSW All Schools’ track and field championships in Sydney recently. Several students took part in the multi-events and track and field titles over two weekends.
Pearson the one to beat
12 Nov 09 | RICHARD Pearson consolidated his position as the man to beat in this year’s Woolgoolga Athletic Club’s Bunch of Fives 5000m series with a convincing win on the beach at Woolgoolga last week. Pearson was kept company on the first lap of the two-lap course by 17-year-old Lyle Mayes before striding away to record 17 minutes 57.1 seconds to Mayes’ 18 mins 51.3 secs.
