SAWTELL will host the region’s first fun run of the new year when the annual 5.5km trek through the seaside village is held on January 1.
Organised by the Sawtell/Toormina Little Athletics Centre, the annual fun run has become the traditional starting point for the popular Sawtell Fun Day at the Sawtell Caravan Park.
Race director Jason Smit has brought together a number of sponsors for the fun run and a junior dash that will be held underneath Sawtell’s fig-tree lined First Avenue.
Prizemoney will be offered to the first three men and women across the line and age group winners and placegetters in the fun run. Junior dash winners and placegetters will receive a medal. All finishers will receive a participation certificate.
Age groups for the fun run are 12 years and under boys and girls, 13-16 years boys and girls, 35-49 years men and women, 50-59 years men and women, and 60 years and over men and women.
The junior dash categories for boys and girls are 5-6 years, 7-8 years, 9-10 year, and 11-12 years boys.
The fun run will start from the corner of First and Second Avenues at 9am. The cut-off time at the finish at Sawtell Caravan Park is 9.45am. The entry fee is $5.
The junior dash will cover two laps of First Avenue. The race starts at 8.30am. The entry fee is $3.
Registrations for both events will be taken from 7.45am. The presentation will be held at Sawtell Caravan Park at 10.15am.
The events are being supported by Planet Fitness, Coffs Harbour Blinds and Awnings, Imperial Sportspower, The Athlete’s Foot and Amart All Sports.
Following the fun runs, the annual sprint races will be held at Sawtell Caravan Park from 10.45am. Entries open at 10am.
Under-7 years runners can take part in the sprint events for free, while there is a $2 fee for the age races and $5 for the Ladies Bracelet and Geoff King Sprint.
Participation ribbons will be presented to all under-7 years runners, while prizemoney will be handed out to placegetters in the under-9 years, under-11 years, under-13 years, under-15 year and under-17 years boys and girls divisions.
The Geoff King Sprint carries $600 in prizemoney, with $300 for first, $200 for second and $100 for third.
The winner of the Ladies Bracelet will collect $100, runner-up $50 and third place $30.
