AFTER winning the Macquarie Generation under-15 years cricket carnival in Singleton last year, North Coast backed it up recently to win the Stan Austin Memorial Trophy in the under-16 years division at Taree.
After losing two close 20/20 matches early, North Coast made it through to the final on a count back against Mid North Coast.
North Coast took on a confident Tamworth regional side who was unbeaten leading into the final.
The final was played as a 50-over format.
After 17 overs Tamworth was 4/73.
In what proved to be a match-changing bowling spell by Jordan Symons, who took 3/11, North Coast then took 6-17 to have Tamworth all out for 90 in the 29th over.
North Coast achieved the win for the loss of seven wickets.
A man-of-the-match batting performance from Lockie Allen, 23 not out, was well supported by Kyle Buckley, 18.
For the second time in two years, North Coast’s winning runs were scored off a boundary from Luke Cox.
It was an all-round team effort to achieve the win.
Sam Harrison scored the most runs for the team over the carnival, Louis Balenzano bowled well, especially in the 20/20 matches and vice-captain Nathan Essex contributed strong batting performances and took wickets with the new ball.
Trent Dierick was called up at the last minute from the under-15 years and was a valuable member of the team with his spin bowling.
The team received a number of individual performance awards during the carnival.
Man-of-the-match awards went to Lockie Allen, Ryan McDonald, Jesse Harris and Jordan Symons.
Catching awards went to Jesse Harris (2) and Jordan Symons. Bowling awards went to Kyle Buckley (3), Ryan MacDonald (2), Rhys Tolhurst and Jordan Symons.
The team’s only batting award went to wicketkeeper, Matt Campbell.
The bowler and player of the tournament awards went to Ryan MacDonald, who also achieved a hat-trick on day three.
