THE continued growth of AFL in Northern NSW has resulted in the appointment of Danny McFadden to the role of development manager.
Coffs Harbour-based McFadden has been employed by AFL NSW/ACT on a casual basis conducting school clinics over the past two years.
The increase demand for AFL programs in schools and growth of the game in NAB AFL Auskick and junior/youth teams has created the need for a permanent development manager to oversee the continued growth of these programs.
His role will be to continue to implement the program in North Coast schools and lead a team of development officers who will be the face of AFL in the schools.
McFadden will also assist development officers in the Mid North Coast and North West to expand their programs.
With the link between schools and clubs being so vital, McFadden will also regularly liaise with club presidents and Auskick coordinators to capitalise on the many school programs running and provide a direct pathway from school AFL to weekend club involvement.
The appointment of another permanent staff member will also result in McFadden assisting regional manager Mark Heaney with club and coach development programs, as well as involvement in the talented player program.
McFadden has stepped aside from his role as coach of the North Coffs Kangaroos senior side to concentrate on his development role.
His strong background as a player and coach will be invaluable to junior clubs as they aim to strengthen their club programs.
McFadden is currently finalising details of the Sydney Swans visit to the area on December 2-3 and finalising bookings for school programs for 2010.
Schools interested in having AFL development staff attend their school for skill, leadership or coaching clinics or who wish to enter AFL competitions should contact Danny McFadden, phone 6652 6560.
