 Juniors' day gets support

Juniors' day gets support

30 Jul, 2010 02:42 PM
A combination of great sportsmanship, a huge crowd, pleasant weather and plenty of happy players was the recipe for success at Toormina Oval last Sunday at the annual Sawtell Football Club Junior Round Robin.

There were 42 teams of six, seven and eight-year-olds from clubs all across the North Coast Football zone which descended on Toormina Oval for several games of Optus Small Sided Football.

With the aim of the day being inclusion and enjoyment for all, with no point-scoring, the atmosphere was structured but relaxed.

The organisers from Sawtell FC arrived early to set up the many fields, the well-stocked canteen and the nerve centre of the Round Robin.

Players and supporters began arriving well before 8.30am, with the first game kicking off at 8.40am.

The 2pm presentation had all participants receiving their ribbons and the raffles were also drawn.

With an emphasis on pitching in for a good cause, many supporters and current players spent their Sunday working willingly, in the knowledge that their support of Optus Small Sided Football at Sawtell FC is assisting to promote the game and to support the development of young players.

Although it is tiring for all, we look forward to continuing the tradition of the Sawtell FC Round Robin at Toormina Oval again next winter.

The Sawtell FC Committee wishes to thank the many volunteers, participants and families who assisted to make the day a huge success.

Last weekend Sawtell FC 1st div men lost 4-1 to the Coffs United Lions with Josh Chapman being, The Shearing Shed man of the match. The u19s youth league team had a 2-0 loss against the u19 Lions.
