Scorpions make mixed start to season

23 Apr, 2010 09:40 AM
SAWTELL FC played three games in three different areas last Saturday.

The club’s second division men started the season where they left off last year and had a great win 4-0 over the South Services Gunners in South Grafton, with Jake Reinhard scoring two goals and wining the Eagle Boys man of the match award.

Third division men had a close and exciting game against Woolgoolga Dolphins at Woolgoolga, but went down 1-0.

First division women were defeated 3-1 by the Boambee Eagles at Boambee and The Coffee Club player of the match award went to Sarah Tisdell.

Last Sunday the club’s under-19s men went up against the Boambee Bombers and considering the way they played, they were lucky to only go down 3-1.

First division men, who have yet to gel as a team, also had a shocker against the Boambee Bombers, going down 5-0. The Shearing Shed man of the match award went to Hayden Kelly.

The first two games this week start on Thursday night at BCU International Stadium at 6.10pm on IS2, with the Northside Health-sponsored over-35s Sawtell Spirits playing Orara Valley Dingoes and the Sawtell Scorpions playing Woolgoolga Dolphins at 8pm on IS1.

On Friday at 7pm the Sawtell Hotel-sponsored third division women head to Dorrigo to play Dorrigo Cedars on D1.

On Saturday, we have five senior games being played at the Toormina ovals, starting with the Watson’s Caravans-sponsored third division men playing the Woolgoolga Sharks at 1pm on T4.

The next two games will be at 3pm, with the Optus-sponsored second division men playing Coffs Coast Tigers on T4 and the Unreal Estate-sponsored first division women also going up against the Tigers on T1.

At 5pm, the Split Café-sponsored under-19s men play Coffs Coast Tigers on T1 and will hope for an improved performance.

Under lights at 7pm the ABC Bricks-sponsored first division men play the Tigers and I am sure coach Ian Glover will be training the players hard this week to improve their playing style.

Remember that every effort is made to provide accurate match times, but changes can be made, so check the NCF website before heading off to your games.
