Scorpions set to field six men’s teams in 2010

12 Mar, 2010 10:00 AM
SOCCER: Sawtell FC looks set to have six men’s teams in this year’s senior competition.

There will be first, second and third divisions, under-19 youth league, and two over-35s teams.

If you want to be a Sawtell Scorpion, but haven’t registered yet, phone club registrar Helen Urquhart, 6658 2513 after 6pm.

Sawtell FC played an in-club trial match last Saturday to gauge player fitness and test new players in the first division and under-19s men’s sides.

Both sides are still down on fitness and new players are slowly gelling with their team-mates, which will improve as they play more trial matches.

This Saturday, Coffs Coast Tigers are coming over to play a trial match against Sawtell’s under-19s at 2pm and against first division men’s team at 4pm at the Toormina ovals on T4.

Senior women’s coach Rachel Oberleuter has picked up some new players, but still has some places left in the first and third division teams.

Rachel coaches the girls at Toormina ovals on Mondays and Thursdays at 6pm.

Senior men’s coach Ian Glover said he has finalised the first and under-19s division teams, but there are still some spots available in the second and third division teams.

He also still needs one more goalkeeper. If you are interested, see Ian on Tuesday or Thursday on T4 at 6pm.

Training for third division is on Wednesdays on T4 at 6pm and training for second division is on Thursdays on T4 at 6pm.

In over-35s news, Geoff reports there are still a few spots left in the two teams.

Meanwhile, for all junior enquiries, contact registrar Helen Urquhart.

Sawtell FC is proud to have The Shearing Shed on board as its first division men’s sponsor.

This is the second year The Shearing Shed has provided sponsorship.

The Coffee Club will again sponsor the women’s first division side, with free hot beverages for the player of the match awards.

Optus is again on board, sponsoring the second division men and funding Sawtell FC jackets for the senior division teams.

Sawtell FC’s orientation day will be held on Saturday, March 20 in the Toormina Girl Guides Hall.

Times to attend are under 6-7, 9.30am; under 8-9, 10am; under 10-11, 10.30am; under 12 boys and girls, 11am; under 13-14 boys and girls, 11.30am; under 15 and 16 boys and girls, noon.
