COFFS Harbour Christian Community High School student Joshua Rees has been selected in the Australian Vikings Futsal team to tour Brazil in May next year.
The tour will visit Brazil’s Soccer Federation training camp in the mountains above Rio de Janeiro, the famous SMC Futsal School of Excellence in Belo Horizonte, as well as the Atletico Soccer Club where the Australians will train with the national league team.
They will also see the excitement of a national league game.
Joshua, who plays for the Coffs Harbour Vikings Futsal Club at Sportz Central, was selected for the Northern NSW Futsal under-15 years team in July and played at the National School Vikings Football Championships in Albury during the recent school holidays.
Northern NSW played against teams from Far North Queensland, South East Queensland, NSW Metro and Tasmania.
Joshua was the top scorer for the under-15 years matches with a total of 16 goals and his team finished third in the competition.
Away from Futsal, Joshua has starred as striker in the Boambee under-15 years football team, as well as representing Northern NSW in the state under-15 years championship this year.
Until the tour, Joshua will be busy training and fundraising with chocolates and working extra shifts at McDonald’s during the holidays.
