Coffs chosen to hold state junior squash titles

22 Mar, 2010 08:08 AM
COFFS Harbour will host the 2010 NSW junior squash championships later this year, the first time the titles have been held outside of Sydney.

Squash NSW board gave full support to the venue and location for this year's championships, a move further demonstrating the direction the organisation is taking by recognising the significant contribution country centres and players are making in the development and growth of the sport.

Coffs Harbour’s bid was helped by its location and all forms of transport, including major airlines daily to and from Sydney, which caters for interstate and city travellers.

Coffs Harbour Squash has conducted tournaments annually since 2002, with the North Coast Open PSA/WISPA tournament a favourite among players and part of the Squash Australia tour calendar.

The centre has previously hosted the NSW Country championships in 2005-06 and conducted the Coffs Harbour Junior Classic, since 2003.

The classic is now a NSW ranking tournament for juniors in August and is a lead up event to the Australian junior age titles in September.

The state championships will be held from July 9-11 and offers players and supporters the chance to enjoy some of the city’s best attractions and witness the expected very strong competition.

Tournament hosts Peter and Jenny Saxby are excited about plans for the championships and social activities for the influx of visitors expected.

“It will be great to have the state's premier junior squash event here in Coffs Harbour and with help from the local squash community we are looking forward to conducting the state's premier junior event,” Peter said.

Entry forms, program and accommodation guide with sponsors will be available shortly.
