THE Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club, hosts of the Pittwater and Coffs Harbour Offshore Series, has secured a partnership with McConaghy Boats for the 2009-10 series, which begins on December 30.
The winner of the overall IRC Division of the four-race Pittwater and Coffs Offshore Series will win a new McConaghy Carbon Fibre Steering Wheel worth $3500.
Light weight, ergonomically designed and warm to the touch, McConaghy Carbon Fibre Steering Wheels reduce flywheel effect and put skippers back in touch with their rudder, providing unprecedented rudder feedback and control.
McConaghy, an international company with facilities in Sydney and China, has been on the leading edge of hi-tech materials construction since inception more than 40 years ago.
Specialising in extremely light and strong carbon fibre laminated structures and components, it serves not only the marine business, but also help the rail, auto, aeronautical, architectural, medical and industrial sectors with strong lightweight composite solutions.
With 2500sq m in Sydney and 7500sq m over three factories in Zhuhai, China, it produces a wide range of products from world famous maxi and mini maxi yachts such as Alfa Romeo, Wild Oats and ICAP Leopard to small production racing yachts such as the Olympic Class Elliott 6m and the Mach 2 foiling moth.
Over the years McConaghy has developed and perfected some of the strongest and lightest marine and non-marine components ever made, many of which have since become production items that are available business to business and direct to market.
From rudders to sprits and everything in between, McConaghy’s commitment to lightweight and innovative high-quality products provide customers with an incredible mix of capabilities not often found in combination elsewhere.
Commodore Russell Murphy said: “We welcome McConaghy boats as a prize sponsor of the 29th Pittwater and Coffs Harbour Offshore Series and thank them for their interest in our warm water event. "McConaghy boats might now be an international brand, but they remain an important local business.
"They have had a long, close and continuing relationship with the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club and its members.
"McConaghy built yachts have taken line honours in the Pittwater to Coffs Harbour passage race on a number of occasions and doubtless a McConaghy built yacht will figure in this year’s event as well.”
