Full list of clubs for MNC pennant season

ALL 15 clubs within the Mid North Coast District Golf Association will be represented in this year’s pennant competition.

Association secretary David Rushworth said it was the first time every club from Grafton to Crescent Head would participate in the winter competition.

“It’s taken a lot of hard work (to get all clubs involved) between the captain (Don Penson) and myself,” Rushworth said.

Forty teams will take part in the six divisions.

The opening round of the pennant will be played on May 16, with divisions one to five involving clubs with 18-hole layouts and division six for the nine-hole clubs.

The top five divisions will be matched using a grading system, while division six games will be played on handicap.

The draw for all divisions will be made following the Mid North Coast championships on March 28 and April 11.

Division one and two will play at South West Rocks and Kempsey, division three at Nambucca Heads and South West Rocks, division four at Sawtell and Coffs Harbour and division five at Coffs Harbour and Sawtell.

Former North Coast Open champion Grant Skinner will represent the Mid North Coast association in a select 36-hole event at Ocean Shoes on Sunday.

Skinner won a place in the three-person shoot out when he won the Mid North Coast champion of club champions event at Coffs Harbour last month.

He will take on the champion of champions winners from the Northern Rivers and Lower North Coast.

Coffs Harbour juniors headed inland last weekend to escape the wet weather.

With the Coffs Harbour Golf Club’s championships cancelled, six juniors took part in the Jack Newton junior tournament at Armidale.

Jack Pountney continued his great form in the 12 years and under division, winning the gross section with an impressive 80 off the stick.

Angus Hickey won the 12 years and under nett trophy with 69 after a gross score of 93.

Tom Major won the 13-14 years nett award with 69, shooting 78 gross.

Rogon Hickey, just 8-years-old, won the nine-hole 11 years and under event with a score of 53. Jack Hickey and Matt McEwan also performed well in this division.

Brandon O’Connor and Aden Louez will meet in the Coffs Harbour junior match play final after contrasting semi-final wins last Saturday.

O’Connor had an early finish with a 5 and 4 result over Angus Hickey, but Louez needed three extra holes to see off the challenge of Tom Stocks.

It was a great result for Hickey and Stocks to reach the final four and continued their recent good form.

The final should be a great contest, with O’Connor off a one handicap and Louez currently off three.
