COFFS Harbour sub-junior golf coordinator Bill Mackay has a lot of time for young Jack Pountney, believing the 11-year-old has a tremendous future in the game.
“He’s got a good temperament and he’s a really nice young fellow to talk to,” Bill said this week after Jack scored yet another hole-in-one during a competition round last Saturday.
“He could well go on to be the best player to come out of Coffs.”
A big call considering the recent international professional success of former Coffs Harbour player Paul Sheehan, but there is no doubt Jack is heading in the right direction.
At 8, Jack created national headlines when he became the youngest player to score a hole-in-one in a competition.
The left-hander did it again last Saturday on the toughest par three on the Coffs Harbour course, drilling a driver into the hole on the 210m 19th.
Jack was recently named in the NSW primary schools’ team to contest a week-long interstate championships at Rosebud, Victoria, in November.
Those titles are being held around the same time as the Australian Masters at Kingston Heath from November 12-15, and who knows, Jack just might bump into world No.1 Tiger Woods.
