The Sawtell Surf Life Saving Club has had success at the recent Country Championships at South West Rocks, coming home with some impressive point tallies.
The combined Juniors, Seniors and Masters teams came 7th out of 33 clubs with a total of 298 points.
The Senior team of Jayden Morgan, Lauren Dam, Izzy Underhill, Emma James, Jack Jensen, Dominic Gough, Jessica Moore, John Jensen, Oliver Gough, Leila Walker, Teneale Moore, Martin Tisdell, Sarah Tisdell, Ritchie Goddard; and masters Jennifer Lyons, Leanne James, Louise Dam, Anthea Martin, Shenna McTackett, Margaret Gill, Martin Kelly, Andrew Martin and Robert Lyons came home with a total of 34 medals, which included 19 individual and eight for teams.
Highlights for the seniors included Lauren winning the board race in the Under 15s, a second in the swim and a third in the Ironwoman on the water.
On the beach the action continued. In the flags it was a clean-sweep with Lauren first, Izzy second and Jayden third, and in the sprints Lauren got the gold with Izzy took the silver.
The sprint relay team of Jayden, Lauren, Izzy and Emma defended their title, taking home the gold once again. The girls didn't win all the medals though with Jack getting 3rd in his beach sprint.
Other results include: Jessica second in both the flags and sprints in the Under 17s; in the Under 19s Leila won the Ironwoman (again) as well as winning the board race and coming second in the swim; Leila, Teneale and Lauren combined their strengths to win the board relay; Martin came third in the board race and then won both the Under 19 and Open surfing; and in the Open age group Sarah picked up a second in the surfing.
But for the talented surf athletes the results didn't end with the young bloods.
In the masters a total of seven medals were won, including a first for Shenna for her swim, a second in the tube race and a third in the board race. Marg also took home a second in the swim, sprint and flags and in the longest event on the beach, Jennifer came third in the 2km run.
These winners are now looking forward to the State Championships and will head to Kingscliff in March.
